I think this maybe the winch that was used to tow targets. Notice on this model of the Marauder the tail gun opening is sheeted over. The bomb bay doors are open. I know they would have extra fuel tanks in the bomb bay for long flights. I was told the rolled up target would be deployed rolled up through a tube then dropped over the field before landing.
