USAAF - 11th Air Force Attu Island 1944
Base life
These are the photos that I suspect best capture the conditions of day-to-day-life.
Tents
Gear wore around the base. Bruno Kozlowski on left.

They had on dog as their mascot. I was told it came on a ship. After one landing the dog ran out to greet the men and the dog was hit propeller tip. Since the dog was mortally wounded the crew had to get permission from the base commander to fire a weapon to put the dog down. This may or may not be that dog as there are other dog pictures.
Outhouse. The enlisted men would sneak into the officers showers for hot showers. I don't know if the officers had a better latrine.

KP duty. Apparently it was a big deal for an officer to get kitchen patrol (KP) duty. I guess that explains the spectators.
The Aleutian Islands are a hostile environment. There is only tundra with permafrost. This was a fake tree.
